DCL Ministries just loves teaming up each month with Creator and Mixed Media Artist, Cherie Burbach with the online magazine Putting On the New. Remember, when you decide to come to Jesus you will be a new creation, the old has gone and the new will come. Choosing to serve Jesus with all your heart, soul, and mind will be the most important choice of your life. Personally, it was the best decision of my life.
Pregnant with promise is a sweet article about God’s sovereignty while highlighting how patient and trusting we ought to be when He decides what is best for us. It is so hard to wait for what we want, but I am learning that there is wisdom in waiting. Enjoy this sweet article and on this Sunday choose to commit to not rushing the process. I encourage you to sit back and enjoy the ride as God distracts you while placing candles on your birthday cake and then yelling, “Surprise!!!”
Pregnant With Promise and Waiting…
“When his time of service was completed, he returned home. After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion. “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.” In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David” ( Luke 1:23-26).
When God blesses us with promise, whether through the Holy Spirit, a friend, family member or co-worker we often find ourselves hoping and looking for someone to share the joy with. In this text we observe several things. Elizabeth is pregnant with John the Baptist, when the world told her it could never happen and we also see God send the angel Gabriel to Mary who is soon to be the mother of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Pregnant with promise, alone, scared, uncertain, secluded, but obedient. As I gazed at this text, I noticed it was after Elizabeth was pregnant for 5 months that God sent the angel Gabriel to Mary, in Nazareth.
Many times we experience great difficulty when we must wait on God’s timing-alone. Personally, it used to be down-right torturous when I had to wait on God when my faith was not as strong. It was scriptures like this which brought me hope when it came to God’s appointed time, while I fought to lay down what I wanted and when I wanted it. I know Elizabeth had to be excited about her wonderful news, but how long did she have to be quiet about it? I am a firm believer that God would never simply drive you to your neighborhood, because He is a gentlemen and a gentlemen always takes you to your home. Meaning, God would never deliver a partial blessing, because He is a God that delivers full, complete blessings. Elizabeth and Mary didn’t know at the time, but God had already planned to bring these two cousins together. How comforting to know that God had a plan to build their faith while simultaneously extinguishing their fears, concerns, anxiousness, and doubt while pregnant with promise. God new Mary and Elizabeth, after some time, would need a friend-more specifically-someone with great faith in the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob going through the same thing at the same time. Hmm, where to find such a person, especially during the tumultuous times of King Herod.
Just when these two ladies thought they would have to endure this storm alone, it is our benevolent, gracious, and merciful God who intervenes bringing them both together. It is so hard to wait and many times we ponder why the Lord would leave us alone when we are in such need of a friend. Remember, God doesn’t simply want to find you a friend. God strives to line you up with like-minded friends. There is nothing more important than God bringing the right people, companions, and spouses into your life. God knows who to bring and when to bring them. Our job is to simply trust Him and to not rush the process.
It is in these two ladies wombs that these babies jumped for joy, when being in each others presence! Waiting on God can produce such joy when understanding collides with our obedience, revealing His great promise. You see, when God brings the right people into your life there will be a spilling over of joy, celebration, familiarity, laughter, love with the Holy Spirit Smack-dab in the middle.
