My Review of Beyond the Face of the Movies featured on the blog of Adrienne Thompson Writes“In this unique nonfiction book, the author gives us insight into some popular and/or beloved movies (including a couple of my all-time favorites) and parallels them with biblical stories, highlighting biblical principles and lessons by breaking them down in understandable and practical terms, all the while infusing the chapters with some of her own personal experiences.
Themes covered include the importance of gratefulness, the consequences of misusing power, the ups and downs of success, perseverance, and self-discovery.
The author summarizes the movies in such a way that makes the reader want to rush out to Best Buy and grab copies of these movies, pop some popcorn, and have an open-Bible viewing party. The way in which she connects these movies to stories of the Bible is eye-opening and innovative, and I found myself smiling, nodding, and amening throughout the book.
I can’t say enough good things about this book. If you’re a movie-lover and a Christian, you’ll truly enjoy reading it!
