It is a shame how God gets introduced into people’s lives for I have discovered that it is this very first impression, of others point of view, that always seems to need correcting or adjusting down the road . In a world that is all about first impressions it is no wonder that the masses of people, worldwide, have got God’s character all wrong from the very beginning. Really, how would you feel if from the beginning of your relationship with your future spouse you are, first, having to defend the gossip about yourself, the slander, the misunderstandings and the wrong point of view that others have been spreading about you? Most people forget to explain the whole story meaning both sides of the coin ,as they say, but normally what we all tend to tell is our side of the story.
What I find even more disturbing is that people are perfectly fine with this version of truth, and what’s worse is many are willing to believe, blindly, what others say about mostly everything without researching it for themselves. It is sad because in the world we live in today assumptions & accusations are very powerful, and they don’t even need to be true to start the unraveling effect , in your life, ultimately burning to the ground what you’ve spent your whole life to create.
What do you do when you find yourself defending who you are ,and no one can seem to get to the point ,in the relationship, of enjoying who you are? What do you do when you realize, like myself, that God all along only wanted to get to the courting stage with you because he really loves you, and this whole time it is you that has had it all wrong. What do you do when you discover that all this time you have been fighting God when all He has been trying to do is love on you? It is strange for prior to me knowing God for myself I , too, spent days ,months , and years floundering around, fumbling the ball, and in my anger towards Him I was, unbeknownst to myself, crucifying Him all over again.
As I continue to read the bible I find as a believer, under the New Covenant of Jesus Christ, that I can’t help but look back at the Old Testament to visit my friends: Moses, Esther, Joshua, Rahab friends which have helped me relate to my and their struggles, but the real page turner and focus for me, at a time corroded with polytheism, is the God of Abraham ,Isaac, and Jacob. I marvel at the sweet Lord’s attempt over, and over to simply get a moment in where humanity recognized Him for once. My heart goes out to God just wanting to show himself, really, to those He so loves, but in the end all he is known for- all people seem to see, and all people wanna talk about is the wrath of God. I wonder what impression would people have about you if they just talked about you from one perspective? I know there are many of you after reading things in the bible wonder how could God allow such things. I understand your position, and so I welcome you, challenge you to discover the answer for yourself if you don’t believe me. Read the bible with an open heart truly desiring to want an answer free from your pre-understanding and cultural baggage; for God says you will find me when you seek me with all your heart.
I urge you to not adhere to the gossip, or impressions that others might have provided you about God, and approach the bible looking for truth, and not like Sherlock Holmes looking for fault or a way to lend weight to what you already want to believe, but from a heart that really desires to understand who is the God of Abraham , Issac, and Jacob. Believe or don’t believe for your own reasons, but don’t base your decision on what others think. I know if you approach your quest in this posture you will find the answers to all your questions and more.
As for me, my personal journey with God, has brought me in agreement with Paul when he says, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith”
So my question to you is what judgments have you been defending in others people’s eyes about your lifestyle , like God has to defend in your eyes about Him? I pray that you would stay open to hearing the full story concerning God and who He is or is not from the author’s point of view not from other people’s impressions; for I once heard someone say what delights an author the most when you approach him is that you read his book…
